Good News of Great Joy

The first two angelic pronouncements that we have seen in Luke's gospel have been private - messages for Zechariah and Mary. But the angelic pronouncement we see in this passage is a public proclamation! It is an announcement of great joy that will be for all people! An announcement made by a great host from heaven to all the peoples of the earth! The gospel can't get any more cosmic in scope than this - good news of great joy in all the heavens and across all the earth!

This announcement of good news is for you. It wasn't made to kings or scribes in palaces or mansions or temples. It was made to ordinary shepherds in a field at night. We preach an extraordinary gospel that is for ordinary people.⁠
