The Holy One of God

As Jesus is teaching, the crowds marvel because teaches with authority. And this authority is even further demonstrated as a man with an unclean spirit begins to cry out in the synagogue. The demon cries out, "What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?!" It even identifies him correctly as the Holy One of Israel. Which means that the answer to the demon's question is that Jesus of Nazareth has everything to do with them. He has everything to do with everything! He is the Holy One of Israel - the one who has authority over all things! When Jesus heals the man, the crowds begin to murmur, wondering what kind of message this is being delivered by a man who exercises power and authority even over unclean spirits.

What areas of our life cry out with a similar objection - wanting to know what right Jesus has over them? Are there aspects of your life that you would say, "What does Jesus of Nazareth have to do with that?!" All things - seen and unseen, both material and immaterial, physical and spiritual - are under the authority and jurisdiction of Jesus.⁠
